While Wailing Souls consists of Floyd "Bread" McDonald and Winston "Pipe" Matthews, they
have an impressive array of musicians accompanying them on this thirteen-song CD, "Live On."
The CD is a collection of thematic songs revolving around the need for all of us, as a world
people, regardless of race, to live as one, capped off with a great cover of Paul Simon's "Mother
& Child Reunion." Wailing Souls also grooves with their own version of "What The World
Needs Now."
The living as one theme flows from every aspect of this CD. Starting with the cover
artwork, picturing animals such as zebras, snakes, pigs, horses, lions, etc., along with faces of
people of the world, interconnected with vines (not very deep, but effective symbols of how
everything relates and needs everything else) to "so was the Indian, so was the Jews, so was
the black man, so was everyone, it doesn't matter what nation are you from, I got to tell you
we must all live as oneÉ" from the title track.
All in all, considering I'm a lukewarm reggae fan, I enjoyed listening to the drums & bass, and
letting myself concentrate on the voices.
