"When Love Finds You"

I first became familiar with Vince Gill when he was nobody hired to rake over the lead vocal chores for the rock band Pure Prairie League. Back then, he was a long-haired rock and roller, far removed from the clean-cut boy next door who now rules country music.

With PPL, Gill recorded three albums, His impassioned vocals on "Let Me Love You Tonight" put t he band back on the charts for the first time in years and brought Gill the recognition that ultimately made him one of the most successful stars of country music today.

"When Love Finds You" is Vince Gill's seventh album, his fourth for MCA. For all the awards he has garnered over the years, industry insiders say this is his best and post poignant work to date. I am inclined to agree with that assessment.

The songs on the album, as the title suggests, are all about some aspect of love. These are not mere boy meets girl or cheatin' songs, however (although they are represented too). Gill's love interests run the gamut from romantic ("Whenever You Come Round") to spiritual ("Go Rest High On That Mountain") to brotherly love ("If I Had My Way").

The love of good friends is evident throughout the album also. Typical of many country artists, Gill surrounds himself with people he admires and respects. His list of co-writers and background vocalists is a virtual who's who in country music. Trisha Yearwood, Amy Grant, Delbert McClinton, Michael McDonald, Patty Loveless and Ricky Scaggs are just a few of the friends who lend their talents and help make Vince Gill's sweet choir boy voice that much more angelic.

"When Love Finds You" is a beautiful tribute to the one emotion that can both confound and captivate all of us.

Oh boy, here's another one! Why do I get these all the time? If you haven't figured it out yet, we hate Country Music!

Well, Vince Gill has done seven albums, all about the same crap. Your cheatin' heart. . .I miss my pick-up truck. . .Lonely nights on the road with my pillow to remind me of you. . .etc. (I'm gonna go and toss my cookies right now-back in a second).

OK. I'm better now. Gill does have quite a list of guest appearing on this album. A lot of the stars of country music appear here, and we missed our chance to bomb the recording studio. Oh well, I'm sure there will be future opportunities.
