If you liked Testament in the past, you will surely like the new album, Low. As they have always done in
the past, Testament has done a fantastic job writing the music for their new album. The guitar work just
plain rips. The base line, shows that Greg Christian puts his heart into the music. The drums rock
through the entire album.
Speaking of the drums, if you check out the liner notes, Testament doesn't have a drummer! All of the
drums were done by John Tempesta (of White Zombie fame). Don't know why there's no drummer, but
John sure filled in nicely. The CD sleeve is damn cool also. Bands should spend more time on the sleeve
art, shows they respect their work.
What is wrong with the CD you ask. The vocals. Can't understand why more and more bands are singing
like they smoke 9 packs of cigarettes a day. It's almost like they're trying to sound like Carcass or
Napalm Death. Just doesn't work for me but it's not too bad. You can overlook it, but if they go
any further; bad news.
"Hail Mary" sounds the best, good singing, awesome solo by James Murphy, and dark foreboding
lyrics; in other words, classic Testament. P.C. perfectly reflects what our political system has become. Last
Call ends the CD with an instrumental outro; perfect ending to a damn good Testament album.
So overall, if you like Testament get the album. If you haven't liked them in the past, you probably
won't like them now.
