Lousie Taylor appears to have skipped those boring After School Specials to go out and live in her developing
years as a musician. Then she came home, picked and strummed at her six-string while musing thoughts
with chord patterns. Looking for Rivers is an acoustical harmony of an indefinable nature. Taylor has
blended delicate notes and choppy strums of her guitar into a bluesy, contemporary, and folk-oriented
format. The girl goes anywhere from placid ballads through pop inklings and ends up with an international
flavored last cut.
The disc begins with exploring the dynamics of voice and rhythm in a simple beat titled "For You." The
next cut, "High Plateau" has that seductive lure of Ricky Lee Jones' "Flying Cowboys." "Walking
Shoes" is a sultry, blues laden tune while songs like "Fire and Brimstone" offer serenity and rest. "Squeal
of the Wheel" is the vintage rocker as "Endless Highway" travels country roads. Ending the plethora
of styles is "Los Flores" reminding us of delicaate Spanish colors and the narrow pathways to the market.
Looking for Rivers is a great disc of originals by this Vermont native. Taylor is one of those songwriters
who realizes not every word has to rhyme or that each verse has to have the same number of
syllables. She is a seasoned musician.
