Vocally landed somewhere between Cher and Pheobe Snow, Katey Sagal (a.k.a. Peg Bundy from Married
with Children), has released her first solo album Well, and it's no joke.
Whether she was pulling too hard for her album to be taken seriously, considering the character she portrays
on her sitcom or it's manifestation of her true self, Well never lightens up.
"I can't eat unless you cook for me baby," Sagal sings to her lover on the opening track, "Thunder
Head" (and she's not talking about her lack of culinary skills).
Systematically, she runs the gamut of love songs. With non-distinct instrumentals and a slick voice, she
hits the five notes she can comfortably land.
She esoterically sings of love in its past tense on "That's How Love Goes," broken hearted
love on "I Don't Wanna Know," syrupy love on "Best Part," as well as a few kinds of love
yet to be named by civilized man.
The album's only speck of luminosity comes with its final song "Dignity," deviating from
Sagal's typical themes, as she lamats about shattered American dreams and being jobless breadwinners.
Sagal shouldn't quit her day job.
