On "Stoned and Dethroned", the Jesus and Mary Chain continue to deliver their mix of laxative and U.K.
dance pop that's different yet consistent with their other classis releases like "April Skies," "Darklands,"
and "Sidewalking," marking a ten-year anniversary between brothers Jim and William Reid as JMAC.
Today, the brothers want to be cowboys, having fetishes with the American West, seventies two-door
Cadillacs, and of course, the retrofide nineties wrap-around shades.
"Stoned and Dethroned" is an acoustic natured release first intended to be all hollowbody. But we all
know how intentions go. The album may remind one of New Order's "Low Life." Half of Mazzy
Star, the sedated Hope Sandoval, offers her duet expertise on "Sometimes Always." "Hole" sounds
like an Automatic extension as the all too danceable "She" is perfect for any young, dirty hair, female
college DJ who is smoking a cig in her dorm room reading a back issue of Interview.
