This CD is comparable to George Clinton teaming up with, say, Enya, and a group of traveling gypsies. Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez, the creative duo that make up Deep Forest, go out of their way to incorporate ethnic music from around the world, using a myriad of instruments and technology to combine together some freaky stuff that makes a sometimes light, sometimes heavy, yet refreshing CD to listen to.

The name, Deep Forest, is the feeling you get, very mysterious and alluring, imagining yourself walking through some deep, dark, unexplored forests, and stumbling on a group of aborigines sitting around a campfire celebrating whatever.

They have traveled the world over, seeking ethnic music, and it shows here, covering such exotic places as Hungary, Transylvania, and Bali. They have brought all these different styles together, using their techniques of splicing, editing, and sequencing, to produce an album that is a cultural adventure.

Deep Forest is also expanding into producing movie soundtracks. If you remember, the 1995 Robert Altman film "Prêt Á Porter" included "Marta's Song," performed by Marta Sebestyen, a native Hungarian, who also teamed up with Deep Forest to record ethnic music from her native region, which lends itself to the title, "Bohême," and gives an overall feeling of forgotten or passed-by peoples who's rich cultural heritage is alive and well, just off the beaten path.

I am going to pretty much agree wholeheartedly with Frank. Deep Forest's new CD is a really neat experience and very enjoyable. The ethnic music and influences really drives the music. You walk away with the feeling that you have just listened to CDs from several different groups.

I would the suggest that the music be used for two types of occasions (other than for the shear pleasure of listening to it, of course) and they would be a first-date dinner and late-night conversation musical pieces. The dinner date will be helped by the music's uniqueness and the late night conversation will benefit from the music's ability to drift in and out of your conscious. One minute it is bold and driving and the next it is soothing and in the background. During the late night conversation, follow up this CD with Marillion's Script of a Jester's Tear for a really smashing good conversation. Both of them will help the time to be one to remember.
